STUDIES IN PRECARIOUSNESS
Studies in Precariousness is a circus theatre piece which hopes to find “alongside-ness” between object and performer through instigating a mutual misunderstanding and sharing in the difficulty of standing up straight.
Rather than mastering objects and skills in order to fake wobbles and danger, the performer teeters along an edge between success and failure unsure of which way things will topple. She invites objects to fall when they wish it, make her fall when they wish it, or surprize her remaining steady.
This piece is an experiment into challenging the success- driven nature of circus practice and performance. The result avoids certainty, makes basics difficult and finds a sense of accomplishment in failure.
